A little bit about myself

Hi, my name is Elaine Vickers and i'm married to Ian and have one son called Charlie (born 2005). We have been located in Sedgefield for over 20 years now, as we have lived in the village since early 2001.

I have been a qualified assured Ofsted Registered Childminder and early years provider since 2010.

After my last ofsted inspection I was awarded a 'good with 'outstanding areas' for my safeguarding, caring, attention and well being for my children.

My highest priority is for the safety and happiness of each individual child in my care, whilst also offering them a significant amount of opportunities to interact and play alongside other children of various ages. My aim is to encourage and enable the children to develop and learn so that I can be sure that I am giving them the best possible start in life.

Being outdoors with the children is an essential step to ensure a development of self-confidence, independence and self-esteem. Exercise is good for their physical health and well being and to expand their fine motor skills. They also become aware of limits, boundaries and challenges in their play whilst experiencing nature and exploring the world around them in their natural environment, developing muscle strength and coordination. I have cared for children from the ages of 8 months up until secondary school. The children are offered love, cuddles, consistency, security, attention and lots of opportunities to learn, play, enjoy and to be themselves. I promote a safe, happy and healthy environment both in and outside of my home.

As a Childminder I offer many benefits to your Child:

"Children become more resilient when they get good consistent one to one care from a loving adult especially up to the age of two" (*Sue Palmer Child Development Expert*)

As a Childminder I work from home to provide care and learning opportunities for all children. I can be flexible around your work, and can offer an individualised and friendly service.

The children will be one of a small group and will have plenty of individual attention, love, nurturing and a trusting warm environment where they can develop friendships and feel protected and secure.

I promote all aspects of children's development through activities and experiences around the children's interests and individual needs in an informal manner. I provide a safe learning environment where children can talk and are listened to and where their confidence and self-esteem is promoted. I support children in making good choices about a safe and healthy lifestyle. I prepare healthy and nutritious meals/snacks and encourage the children to eat a well balanced diet.

I also promote positive behaviour at all times.

I build relationships with parents and keep the lines of communication open to encourage 'working in partnership'.

I recommend a daily routine as it gives infants and toddlers a sense of security and stability, it helps them feel safe and secure in their environment. Young children gain an understanding of everyday events and procedures and learn what is expected of them as routines make their environment more predictable.
