Comfy quiet corner
Books inform children's imaginations helping them to see, hear, taste, feel and smell and inspires creativity and also stimulates children's sensory awareness and curiosity.
Kitchen area
The kitchen area is great at encouraging language and communication between the children. It gives them a sense of independence and self confidence during pretend play using their imaginations.
Dress up & role play
Dressing up encourages creative thinking and communication skills. It also helps children practice language development and their social skills. Children are stretching their imaginations through different identities and occupations during role play.
Quiet time on the beanbags with snuggly blankets
Naps provide much needed downtime that aids the important physical and mental development that happens in early childhood. It helps children from becoming overtired and overstimulated which can affect their moods and make it harder for them to fall asleep at night.
Dolls/activity centre/pushchairs/accessories
Practicing imitation can help children improve language skills, self esteem and other important social skills to encourage healthy development.
Small/medium/large cars/vehicles/garage
Interactive play in developing social skills such as communication and taking turns, and also Improving children’s gross motor skills like reaching, bending, pushing, pulling and co-ordination.
Instruments/music/dance
Instruments are valuable for children’s development, supporting sensory skills and building fine & gross motor skills.
Wooden train set
Small world toys aid children to develop communication and interaction skills, they gain experience from physical and cognitive benefits by grasping and pushing the trains along.
Farmyard/animals
Children build all important senses of communication, empathy and caring and develop social skills.
My Setting
We live in a spacious three bedroom house with a large extension for the children to roam and move around freely. It is child friendly, thoroughly clean and very well maintained. We have a designated bright playroom which is well organised, with shelves and storage boxes that are labeled, so the children can choose for themselves what they would like to play with. I also have a wide range of picture cards of activities so the children can choose from for their next visit to Elaine's.
The back garden has a high secure fence with electric double gates, which are always closed when the children are playing outside. There is a wide range of outside toys/equipment which are stored in the outbuilding to prevent weather damage but are gotten out daily. The garage door and side gate are locked at all times too. There is also a play park just a couple of minutes walk away from my home.
I have a 7 seater car which we use to and from school, trips out, shops or the library etc which has a full MOT, business insurance cover, is serviced regularly and I also have a full clean driving licence. The children have car seats securely fit for their appropriate age.
We have 2 cats, Bluebell and Horace and a small dog called Wilbur. The cats stay out of the way of the children as they are either outside or asleep upstairs, and the dog stays in the kitchen which has a gate on the door to prevent him going into the rest of the downstairs. All animals are child friendly.
